Halloween occurs on 31 October and has its origins in the Irish and Anglo-Saxon "All Hallow's Eve", the evening before All Saints' Day. It was a Celtic autumn festival marking harvest time where fires were lit to guide the dead and scare away witches. From this, a tradition of visiting graves and lighting candles emerged. The difference between Halloween and All Saints' Day is that Halloween is a joyous holiday filled with pranks and celebration, while All Saints' Day is a contemplative rite of remembrance. Halloween is mainly associated with dressing up in spooky costumes and children going door-to-door trick or treating. The latter tradition originates from England.

Ghost Cupcakes with Oreos and Nutella!

Muffins

100 g dark chocolate
40 g cocoa powder [1 dl]
175 g hot coffee, [1.75 dl]
120 g wheat flour [2 dl]
170 g sugar [2 dl]
3 g salt [0.5 tsp]
3 g baking powder [0.5 tsp]
10 g vanilla sugar [1 tbsp]
90 g oil [1 dl]
110 g eggs, room temperature (2 pcs.)
4 g white wine vinegar [2 tsp]

Nutella Frosting

100 g dark chocolate 70% cocoa
200 g unsalted butter, room temperature
120 g icing sugar [2 dl]
10 g vanilla sugar [1 tbsp]
3 g salt [0.5 tsp]
100 g Nutella [3 tbsp]

Meringue Ghosts

150 g egg whites [4-5 pcs]
220 g sugar [2.5 dl]
A pinch of salt

Decoration

7 Oreo cookies, smashed into crumbs
Black marzipan, black paint, or something to use as eyes

Instructions:

Cupcakes:

Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius. Place 12-1 cupcake liners in a cupcake pan.
Chop the chocolate and mix it with the cocoa in a bowl. Pour hot coffee into the mixture and whisk. Set aside.
Mix flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and vanilla sugar in a different bowl.
In a third, larger bowl, mix vegetable oil, eggs, and white wine vinegar. Whisk lightly.
Pour in the chocolate mix and the dry ingredients.
Fill a maximum of 3/4 of the cupcake liners and bake in the middle of the oven for 15-17 minutes. Take out and let cool completely before adding the frosting.

Frosting:

Chop the chocolate and place it in a bowl, then melt it gently over a water bath or in the microwave.
Mix the butter, icing sugar, vanilla sugar, and salt until fluffy. Whisk in Nutella and the melted chocolate. Beat until you have an airy, smooth frosting.

Meringue:

Place egg whites, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Place the bowl in a water bath and whisk lightly until all the sugar crystals have dissolved. Remove the bowl from the heat and beat with an electric whisk until the meringue is stiff and has cooled.

Assembly:

Pipe a circle of Nutella frosting onto each cupcake.
Gently dip the cupcakes into the Oreo crumbs, enough to coat the frosting.
Pipe the meringue into the shape of ghosts and add eyes.
